New Orleans Summer 2009 Mission Trip

May 6, 2009

Mission

We are heading to New Orleans for our third straight summer July 25 – August 2, 2009. After going to New Orleans during Mardi Gras for over 2o years, the Lord has called many of us to help Pastors Marc and Angie Smith spread the gospel throughout the neighborhood surrounding their church.

While the church was restored after Hurricane Katrina, the surrounding neighborhood continues in physical, emotional and spiritual devastation.

nos

We have seen God do amazing things the past two summers and realize that there is much more to be done.

You can be a part of this unique opportunity and see God restore gang members, drug addicts, prostitutes and the homeless to a relationship with their Creator.

On this trip you will:
•    Participate in daily prayer meetings, testimonies and Biblical evangelistic training
•    Work the neighborhood streets as we share the gospel with hundreds of individuals who have lost hope and are seeking help
•    Work with children, at the church, as the rest of the group works he streets
•    Participate in Barbeques as we daily feed hundreds with free food and drinks
•    Experience special revival services with incredible worship and powerful preaching
•    See lives changed by the power of God because you made the decision to rescue those who are perishing

This outreach will leave an incredible impact on your life as you witness the power of God manifest firsthand.

Your Involvement

Witnesses
No experience necessary – just a desire to share Jesus with a lost and dying world.
Intercessors
We need committed believers to pray for us.  If you are interested, let us know so that we may give you specific prayer requests.
Financial Supporters
This trip will require supplies, crafts for the children, food for workers and for the neighborhood barbeques at the church.

Opportunity

This trip is designed to train individuals on how to share their faith, one-on-one with hundreds of  non-believers.

Youth are encouraged to come as we have seen God call many into the ministry.

Families are welcome. We will have plenty of opportunities for young children to learn how to minister to others by:

•    Helping at the church
•    Serving food
•    Passing out toys and clothes
•    Watching their parents serve Jesus Christ

You do not have to be a Street Preacher to serve Jesus on this outreach:

•    We will need help with children’s ministry at the church
•    We are looking for those who will help cook and distribute food at the barbeques
•    We will need help distributing clothes, toys, and gifts
•    Whatever your gifts, we will put you to work

Registration

Total cost per person is $400.00 for 9 days. This includes:

•    Room and board for eight nights at the YWAM home (sleeps approximately 55)
•    Transportation for the entire trip– renting vans, gas, and insurance
•    All meals except going and coming home.  You will need personal money for food on Saturday July 25 and Sunday August 2
•    Supplies needed for outreaches– tracts, gifts and food for the community, etc.

Due to a limited amount of space on vans and at YWAM, we are asking for a $100.00 non-refundable registration fee by June 30, 2009. Full payment will need to be made by July 20, 2009.

A limited amount of scholarships will be available depending on need. You may request one by contacting Nelson.

Those who wish to be part of the outreach but cannot be gone nine days are welcome to join us for the last four days. Cost for Thursday – Sunday is $180.00 with your own transportation (we will be happy to shuttle you to and from the airport).

About Executing His Word

Executing His Word is a faith-based ministry whose primary purpose is to teach Christians how to effectively share their faith.  We are also engaged in numerous evangelistic outreaches throughout the year as well.  We purposely try to find large groups of predominately secular audiences in order to share the Gospel.  New Orleans during Mardi Gras, city festivals, low-income projects and apartments, and secular music concerts are just a few examples of the type of venue we seek for ministry.

About Nelson Ligon

nos21 Nelson Ligon, founder of Executing His Word, has been taking the Gospel to nonbelievers for over 25 years. Witnessing to neighbors and establishing neighborhood festivals are just a few of the training events he has done and will do for your church.

Mardi Gras Report

March 5, 2009

We have returned from New Orleans and I am excited to tell you that we had a very successful trip.  Every member of our team had multiple divine appointments while we were there.  I am amazed at how we just showed up and the Holy Spirit took over.  It is a testimony to those of you who prayed for us; we really experienced and recognized the impact of your prayers.  Here are just a few examples of what we experienced;

1.       While on the streets in the French quarter, we had a countless amount of people come to us with a real interest in finding out more about what we believe.  Many gave us their email so we could stay in touch with them and follow up. There were many genuine commitments to Christ.

2.       I personally had some encounters with individuals who wanted to harm me.  One man, who had a black veil over his face, had a real dark and demonic presence and began speaking evil curses when, all of a sudden, the Holy Spirit showed up with such a powerful presence that he began to move away from me very quickly.  Another very angry young man wanted to burn me in the face with a cigarette but did not follow through.

3.        I also had an encounter with a lesbian police officer who was threatening to put me in jail because I set my team up on a street corner in the gay district of bourbon street.  Even though our signs were “nice” and were not offensive, she went into a rage and started to throw me in jail.  I was polite to her and just wanted to know on what basis she had authority to do so. This only made her more angry.  Even though what she was about to do was illegal and Robert was video taping it, she did not care. I know it was your prayers that kept me out of jail.  During Mardi Gras,  if you go to jail, they keep you there until Wed. morning before they let anyone out (This was Sunday Night). One more interesting aspect of this encounter was that  one of the gay bars, close to where we were standing while this was taking place, had music that was blaring with lyrics which chanted repeatedly, “We love Satan, we worship Satan and we are all going to hell.”  This repeated over and over again while this took place…I kid you not!

4.       Because of your prayers, the family members of our team did not experience any serious issues. I have had, in the past, things happen to my family that caused me to have extreme anxiety. Two years ago, my team had an encounter with a Jamaican witch doctor who told me that “he does car accidents.” At that very moment, back in Dallas, my daughter, son-in law, and three of my four grand kids were in a terrible accident on 121 in Bedford. They were hurt and their car was completely destroyed. Praise God that nothing like this happened this year.  I would be lying to you if I did not confess that stuff like this torments me before leaving for New Orleans, especially this year. If I had any doubts about God sending me there, I would have backed down. This is why I need a group of friends who will really pray while we are gone.  THANK YOU!

We have literally hundreds of testimonies from members of our team.  I hope to have Robert put together some video to show at our upcoming “Rescue and Recovery” training seminar in Farmers Branch, Saturday March 28 at 9:00am. I would love to see you there ( more info will be up soon).

Finally, please do not cease to pray for me.  I have plans to add additional outreaches to our schedule this year. These projects will require additional funds and additional time away from my business.  I hope to have these additional outreaches posted on our web within the next few weeks, so keep in touch.

God Bless you and thanks again for your prayers and support,

Nelson

Trinity Mills in Carrollton, TX 75006. If you have any questions you can contact Inky at 972-417-5059 or itgarza2@verizon.net. If this is your first time going to Mardi Gras with us, it is very important that you attend all of the prayer meetings.

Living conditions are “missionary” sleeping bag style on the floor of a Christian School with shower facilities and meals prepared at the school.
There will be approximately 200 people participating in this outreach.

MISC. ITEMS:
