I said, “I beseech You, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who preserves the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, let Your ear now be attentive and Your eyes open to hear the prayer of Your servant which I am praying before You now, day and night, on behalf of the sons of Israel Your servants, confessing the sins of the sons of Israel which we have sinned against You; I and my father’s house have sinned.
Nehemiah 1:5-6
We will be headed back to New Orleans this summer and the Lord has been speaking to me about Nehemiah and his calling to rebuild Jerusalem’s wall. The application is that we live in a nation whose spiritual walls of God’s protection have fallen as well.
Satan is running loose throughout America and bringing destruction that touches our leadership on down to those just trying to survive day to day. Our only hope of survival is another great awakening; a revival that can only born by a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.
Look at how Nehemiah began the task of rebuilding the walls:
- First, he begins by praying and acknowledging how great and awesome our God is. He did not begin his task by giving God a list of what he needed, he began by praising His God.
- Secondly, he humbly asked God to open his ears and eyes to what he was about to say rather than demanding God do something because he deserved it.
- Finally, he begins by confessing his sins and the sins of his people. He did not say “those sinners” or “your sinners.” Instead he said “I and my father’s house have sinned.” He included himself.
As he confessed all of their sins something remarkable happened: God listened and began to answer his prayer. Thus the wall began to be rebuilt.
We will not see our nation’s walls rebuilt until we, as a church, repent and begin to “… turn from their wicked ways.” This is how our group will enter New Orleans this summer. We must be humbled and allow God to break every stronghold in our lives that would hinder a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.
I am expecting a fairly large group this summer. There is still room for a few more to join us July 13th thru July 20th. Cost remains $400.00 per person and includes room and board, transportation, and 80% of your meals. As I’ve said before, don’t let the money affect your decision.
Eight solid days of prayer, worship, evangelism training, and a lot of street ministry. We will be working again with New Orleans YWAM leaders, Steve and Bronwen Niles, and Pastors Marc and Angie Smith from Abiding Temple.
Please pray about whether you should join us. We also would appreciate your prayers and support. We need an army of intercessors to help us rebuild the walls. We are believing God for revival.
God Bless,
Nelson Ligon
