“Because the Lord God helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face like a stone, determined to do his will, and I know I will not be put to shame.” Isaiah 50:7 NLT
Do you see the Lord helping you when you are at your lowest moments? If you are not sure if He does, you can be. Most are not helped because they never turn to him for help. He does not force Himself on anyone, but He desires to help everyone.
We have an enemy on this earth and his name is satan and one of his goals is to bring you to shame. He is out to destroy you and one of his weapons he uses is shame. It is his voice you hear whispering in your ear that “you are a failure.” He wants to bring you to the place of utter disgrace and finally get you to just give up. He wants you to fail.
There is a way to avoid failure but it requires looking to God for help. It is really the only way we can fully succeed in life. First you must realize you need his help to win. Rather than turn to God, many think money and riches will give you success. You might be surprised that if you talk to the people that have attained wealth, most of them will admit to you that they still feel ashamed and empty. The only exception you will find is those who have made Jesus Lord of their life. Many wealthy people live a life full of depression and guilt. Wealth will not remove your shame.
The only way you will avoid leading a shame-filled life is if you determine to do the will of the Lord God. If your goal is anything outside of pleasing God, you will never attain the peace and joy that God created us to enjoy. Think about it, do you live for yourself or for Him?
The determination you need is the kind where you set your face looking towards God with a focus that will not allow anything to get you off course. You have to set your face like a solid rock that you will do things His way.
Now this does not mean you won’t mess up, but as long as you don’t give up, you will succeed. The key is that you understand that you must rely completely on His help as we can’t overcome our shame on our own.
How do you start out depending on God when you are in the habit of depending on what you should do for yourself ? It is really as simple as just making the decision that you will start your day looking to enter His presence. He wants you to spend time with Him in order for you to be equipped to to avoid the attacks of shame and disgrace.
Now if you find yourself not even knowing how to enter His presence you need to start out by asking Him for forgiveness for allowing your pride and sin to separate your from Him. Jesus died for your sins in order to remove the destruction that it has caused in your life. Once you do that, you will be able to start hearing His voice. He wants to spend time with all of us. Don’t make excuses, just tell Him you are sorry and decide to change.
My suggestion is that you start your day having breakfast with him and end your day having dinner with him. You will see the strength to overcome the mental attacks will grow as you sit and spend time with Him.
Jesus said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and He with me.” Revelations 3:20
He is knocking on the door to your heart. Answer the door, open the door and invite Him in. You will never regret it.
